REVIEW: The other day I came across a new musical expression in a singer-songwriter, American- style, to be found at the website of Tom Forsey, from New Castle, Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, that saying can not be ‘fresh’ any more, because the next album after “Another Chapter Down” (2000) that’s “To The Core” (2002) is already 2 years old and consists of 11 very beautiful worked out songs. Forsey was clearly inspired by people like John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Tom Waits and Steve Earle. We can hear that immediately at the start of “Spare a Little Sympathy” and the blues-style ballad “Off and Running”. Until now, I only talked about his music, but there is more, however… the scouring voice that penetrates heavy and deep into the fantastic melodies. Just listen to “Words with No Song”, with brilliant guitar-solos of Terry Mettam that Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (Steely Dan) could not have done any better. Also, the songs “Then I Knew” and “Glad with You” are both world songs!

When we explore the digi-pack design, we see the name of producer, Chris Biondo. Don’t we know him from the Eva Cassidy and Chuck Brown’s album, “Spirit of Christmas”? Some more striking names: on bass, Steve Sachse, drums, Andy Hamburger, and pedal-steel, Dave Giegerich from Kevin Johnson’s band. Yes, I told you... remarkable names of musicians, somewhat unexpected in this genre. Just everything fits on this album by Tom Forsey, and I am still wondering why we did not hear about him before!
