I thought I was listening to Neil Young when The Simple Things from Tom Forsey opened. This guy writes great songs, and has the perfect voice for them. His laid back style and upbeat melodies, combined with his voice, makes this a special album. The first tune was cool, but track two really got me. “Simple Life” is everything you want a folk/rock song to be. The CD booklet is beautiful… incredible photos, and explanations on every song. Tom is joined by musicians Eric Tischler, Dave Giegerich, Tommy Lepson and Dave Hanbury, and he (Tom) also took a lot of the photos in the booklet. The really cool thing, though, is that the music and art belongs together. These are incredible musicians, and I especially loved the guitars and keys--they were something and blended together so well. When the harmonica comes in, you smile because you really don’t expect it. The Simple Things, the new release from Tom, should be officially available in February.
